Azobenzene-functionalized carbon nanotubes as high-energy density solar thermal fuels.

چکیده
Solar thermal fuels, which reversibly store solar energy in molecular bonds, are a tantalizing prospect for clean, renewable, and transportable energy conversion/storage. However, large-scale adoption requires enhanced energy storage capacity and thermal stability. Here we present a novel solar thermal fuel, composed of azobenzene-functionalized carbon nanotubes, with the volumetric energy density of Li-ion batteries. Our work also demonstrates that the inclusion of nanoscale templates is an effective strategy for design of highly cyclable, thermally stable, and energy-dense solar thermal fuels.

متن کاملMolecularly Engineered Azobenzene Derivatives for High Energy Density Solid-State Solar Thermal Fuels.
Solar thermal fuels (STFs) harvest and store solar energy in a closed cycle system through conformational change of molecules and can release the energy in the form of heat on demand. With the aim of developing tunable and optimized STFs for solid-state applications, we designed three azobenzene derivatives functionalized with bulky aromatic groups (phenyl, biphenyl, and tert-butyl phenyl group...

متن کاملTheoretical study of interaction of 4-amino phenyl-azobenzene with (SWCNTs), A DFT method
The electronic and structural properties of single wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) interacted with 4-amino phenyl-azobenzene were theoretically investigated by using the hybrid DFT (hybrid-density functional theory) calculations. The amount of thermodynamic parameters of this reaction in the gas and aqueous phase suggesting thermodynamic favourability for adsorption of 4-amino phenyl-azobenzene ...
